Litspiration Challenge #1: Letter to the Author

Letter To the Author

Book: One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies
Author: Sonya Sones

Dear Sonya Sones,
I am an eighth grade student and One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies, was recommended to me by a friend who said that it was an absolutely remarkable book. After I read it, I was stunned at how well it was written and how anyone who read it could relate relatively well to the book as the plot was very genuine and it could happen to almost anyone. The emotion that was put into the book was great and you did a wonderful job explaining what a teenager goes through after her mother dies. I felt that it was portrayed really well and as I read it, I could imagine what it would feel like to lose someone so close to you. Also, Ruby, the main character of the book was one of the few characters that I could relate well to as she adored reading and listening to music, which are two of the things I spend a good chunk of my time doing. I found the book to be funny, unique and sarcastic which was something else I really liked about it. I managed to finish it over the time period of 3 days as once I started I got so wound up in it that I could not put it down. I found that the size of the book was perfect too. It didn’t drag on for too long but it wasn’t too short either. It gave you a good sense of what was happening and I felt like I had a good understanding of most of the characters by the end of the book. It was definitely one of the best books I have ever read, and I would recommend it to anyone out there. I really enjoy your style of writing and I hope that you continue to write and present to us incredible books!
